
Shooting (All Modes)
Camera takes time to turn on: Delete files or folders.
Shutter-release disabled:
• Memory card is locked, full, or not inserted (CQ 29,32).
• Built-in flash is charging (CQ 39).
• Camera is not in focus (CD 38).
• CPU lens with aperture ring attached but aperture not locked at highest f-number. If fE E i;
displayed in control panel, select Aperture ring for Custom Setting f6 (Customize
command dials) > Aperture setting to use lens aperture ring to adjust aperture (CD 233).
• Non-CPU lens Is attached but camera is not in mode A or M (CD 270).
No photo taken when remote control shutter-release button is pressed:
• Replace battery in remote control (CD 281).
• Choose remote control release mode (CD 80).
• Flash is charging (CD 82).
• Time selected for Custom Setting cS (Remote on duration, CD 215) has elapsed: press
camera shutter-release button halfway.
• Bright light is interfering with remote.
Photos are out of focus:
• Rotate focus-mode selector to AF (CD 91).
• Camera unable to focus using autofocus: use manual focus or focus lock (CD 97,99).
Focus does not lock when shutter-release button is pressed halfway: UseAE-L/AF-L button to lock focus
when AF-C is selected for focus mode or when photographing moving subjects in AF-A mode.
Can not select focus point:
• Unlock focus selector lock (CD 96).
• M (auto-area AF) or S' (face-priority AF) selected for AF-area mode: choose another mode.
• Camera is in playback mode (CD 163) or menus are in use (CD 195).
• Press shutter-release button halfway to turn monitor off or activate exposure meters (CD 39).
Subject-tracking AF not available: Select a non-monochrome Picture Control (CD 131).
Can not select AF-area mode: Manual focus selected (CD 55,99).
Only one shot taken each time shutter-release button is pressed in continuous release mode: Lower built-in
flash (CD 143).
Image size can not be changed: Image quality set to NEF (RAW) (uj 85).
Camera is slow to record photos: Turn long exposure noise reduction off (CD 205).
Noise (randomly-spaced bright pixels, fog, or lines) appear in photos:
• Choose lower ISO sensitivity or use high ISO noise reduction (CD 101,205).
• Shutter speed is slower than 8 s: use long exposure noise reduction (CD 205).
